Our very first grow started on 08/20/2022 with a Marshydro 2x4 grow kit. Our second grow added an additional Marshydro 4x4 kit with a few upgrades. To see more information on our grow kits please visit our Grow Tents Page.
Here’s an outdated picture of my current grow tents/kits that are in use.
The Room & The Smell
The only option I had for my grow operation was in my basement, in a separate room with a door, HOWEVER, this also shares the same space as our furnace. The biggest concern for this operation was the smell. On the first grow with the 2x4 by the time the flowers started to bud when you opened the door(or it was left open((oops))) you could definitely smell what was happening throughout the house. This was my biggest obstacle, trying to remove the smell as much as possible.
My biggest obstacle was trying to remove the smell as much as possible.
On the second grow I prepared ahead of time by hanging moving blankets from the ceiling in this room to SEPARATE the grow operation from where the furnace is. I’ve also placed an additional fan outside of the tents to blow air away from the furnace and an air purifier.
The biggest improvement however was installing exhaust vents to run outside of the house.
- We drilled out two 4-inch holes with a laundry-style air duct system in the side of the house with flapping vents.
- One of the 4-inch air ducts runs directly to the 4x4 tent to exhaust outside.
- The other 4-inch air duct is run to a bathroom exhaust system that was mounted between the floor joists in the ceiling to help exhaust the smell of growing cannabis as well as burning cannabis 🔥.
Making these improvements has greatly increased the air quality in the basement and the house as a whole. I can safely smoke cannabis in the basement without the house having ANY odor at all. We have not made it to budding in the second grow yet, but I would imagine the smell should be minimal.
